Carol Brownson

Carol Brownson, MSPH serves as  Project Manager for the NACDD-funded Evidence-based Public Health (EBPH) Training hosted by the Prevention Research Center in St. Louis. In that capacity, she also provides technical assistance to states trained to replicate the EBPH course. Shepreviously served as Program Director at Washington University in St. Louis for diabetes and chronic disease initiatives funded by the Missouri Foundation for Health. Prior to that, she served for seven years as Deputy Director of the Diabetes Initiative National Program Office at the Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis. In that capacity, she provided technical assistance and support to 14 project sites across the country, which included monitoring projects, conducting self-management training, facilitating development of tools to improve self-management support in clinics and communities, leading workgroups on community health worker interventions, and developing community supports for diabetes self-management. During that time, she also collaborated with the Missouri Primary Care Association on a self-management quality improvement project with 17 federally qualified health centers. Ms. Brownson has contributed to numerous publications on EBPH, health promotion and self-management support.  Her public health career began in the Missouri Department of Health, where she worked for 16 years in chronic disease prevention and health promotion programs at the Missouri Department of Health, including serving as Assistant to the Director and Acting Director of the Division of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.
